What’s On Taste: Friday 4th + Saturday 5th April

WWD 20140404

Throughout April, we are supporting an initiative called Real Wine Month, highlighting organic, biodynamic and natural wines made by artisan growers and producers.

Our Friday and Saturday tastings until Easter will all be with wines that fall into this category, including a special Fizzy Friday on 11th April.

And we’ll be running a special 10 for 10 offer during the month.

Spend £10 or more on a bottle of “real” wine and we’ll give you 10% off your next bottle, whatever you choose – so long as it’s wine. We will mark the qualifying bottles with gold stars. Buy one of them to qualify for the discount.

To mark the start of Real Wine Month, here’s what we’re opening for our in-store tasting Friday and Saturday, 4th and 5th April.

Sameiras Ribeiro Blanco 2011 (Spain £13.80)

A Galician blend of Treixadura, Albariño, Godello and teeny quantities of some other local white grapes, this is a fleshy, medium-bodied wine with yellow peach and gala melon flavours and a clean, vibrant finish. It goes really well with bold fish dishes, garlic squid or prawns, vegetable couscous salad and slow-roasted pork belly. We know because we’ve tried them all… The vineyard follows organic practices and spontaneous yeasts are used for fermentation.

Umathum Zweigelt 2011 (Austria £17.00 and halves £10)

Josef Umathum is one of Austria’s best known red wine makers. He makes wines from a number of different terroirs in Burgenland, in the west, and follows organic and  biodynamic principles. He is perhaps best known for his Zweigelt, a grape created in the 1920s by crossing two other local grapes. This wine has bags of bright red berries, with hint of violets, cinnamon and chocolate. Like an Austrian version of a very good Cru Beaujolais.

Wines are open from 6pm on Friday and 2pm on Saturday and  normal Park+Bridge tasting rules apply (it’s free, you’re only here to enjoy yourself and there’s absolutely no obligation whatsoever to buy anything).
