This weekend we’ll be opening two wines that we think are perfect anytime of the year.
Sébastien Vaillant Valençay 2012 £10.99
This Loire white really delivers for the price. It is great for drinking on its own. It also makes a tasty accompaniment to salads, white meats, fish and creamy cheeses. Valençay is 80% Sauvignon Blanc – adding some racy aromatics – and 20% unoaked Chardonnay, to flesh out the texture and round the edges.
Pittnauer Velvet (£12.99)
We opened a bottle of this lush red a couple of months ago. But we think it is SO good, we’re doing it again. It’s an opportunity to refresh your memory or the chance to discover something new. It’s a blend of two Austrian grapes Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The wines will be open from 6pm on Friday and 12 noon on Saturday ‘til we run out.
(And, if you feel it’s too hot for red wine, try chilling your bottle down a couple of degrees. A Gamay from Beaujolais is the classic, but we’ve done it with all the red wines we’ve recently opened).
